Lollipop Scales

We are very fortunate to be the proud owners of two major artifacts: a Coca-Cola vending machine and a penny lollipop scales. Both are in excellent working order and have been added as interactive exhibits in the Wayzata Depot Museum.

Linda Hansen and her sister Sharon Collins graciously donated both to the Wayzata Historical Society. Both originated from their parents drug store, which was located on the corner of Lake Street and Barry Avenue (now Candlelight Floral & Gifts).

"YOUR DOCTOR SAYS WEIGH YOURSELF DAILY"

You will find this printed on the shield of the Peerless Aristocrat Deluxe scales now located in the Depot. This model dates back to the early 1920’s. Popular in the 1920’s and 1930’s, it is estimated that over 750,000 penny scales could be found throughout the country. Today, only an estimated 5,000 exist.

Nicknamed the lollipop scales because of their distinctive shape, the Peerless scales were commonly found in railroad depot waiting rooms. Come in to our waiting room and check your weight. Be aware though, it will cost you a penny!
