DEPOT MUSEUM:
The 1906 Great Northern Depot is
open to the public Wednesdays, Weekends and Holiday afternoons from April through New Years Day. Walk back in history and
feel what it was like to wait for a scheduled train in this original dept....one
of the finest that James J. Hill built. This gem has many of the original
fixtures which have been untouched over the decades.

While visiting the Depot, pick up one of the highly
amusing and informative Newsletters designed, written, and published by the
Historical Society. Limited issues are available, but some back issues of the
quarterly "TELEGRAPH" can be seen on the website. These will be rotated

TIMELINE:
Unique to anyone interested in Wayzata History is the
large 7-panel full color Timeline of events specific to the growth of our
community. This Sesquicentennial feature opened in May of 2004, and documents the
Euro-American migration when the land west of the Mississippi was opened for
settlement. It is located in the historic Depot/Museum on the scenic shores of
Lake Minnetonka. Learn more...
PODIA:
Four historical podia have been placed around the town
for your enjoyment. Three are located around the train Depot, and describe the
coming of the railroad and James J. Hill; the early settlement of he Native
American and town folk -- plus the lake attraction during the Golden Years. The
newest podia is on Batson's Corner at Heritage Park, Wayzata Blvd. and Highway
101 North.
PROGRAMS:
The Historical Society offers members and the
general public quarterly programs in January, April, July and October. These
programs are announced in our Newsletter and here on the website. Programs are
presented on the first or second Thursday; time and place to be specified when
program details are announced.
RESEARCH:
The Archives is open every Saturday from 10:00 to
noon. Photography and other files are being organized in this new home on the
lower level of the Library. Video tapes of past programs and recorded interviews
of long-time residents are available for viewing (comfy chairs and earphones are
available!) Our newest project is "BUILDING FAMILY FILES" for all people who
grew up, went to school or worked in Wayzata. Readers and database volunteers
are always needed and welcomed.
